History, Emory University

My research sits at the intersection of politics and planning and focuses primarily on the metropolitan centers of the Sunbelt and the American South. While I am trained as an historian, I am nevertheless indebted to scholars in the broader field of urban studies, and I am interested in contemporary urban issues, especially the growth and development strategies employed by resurgent central cities and the efforts underway to promote physical and social mobility in Twenty-First Century metropolitan centers. As an instructor, I emphasize the regular use of primary source materials and digital tools, and attempt to highlight connections between historical developments and contemporary challenges.
