SYLLABUS: Urban Sociology

Description

This undergraduate course introduces students to the key concepts, theories, and research traditions in the field of urban sociology, focusing on Atlanta as well as other American cities. This course is geared toward viewing the city as a simultaneously social, cultural, political, and economic phenomenon, with particular attention to: a) urbanization and the structure of cities; b) suburbanization; c) urban growth and economics; d) race and segregation; e) immigration; g) culture; h) gender and sexuality; and i) housing and social policy.
